How to re-attach my left rear view outside mirror

What is your question?

My big boo -boo......backing up.....tore off housing but niether housing or the mirror broken and still able to move mirror with control from knob in driver's side panel...Can it just be glued back in place? Have,, ugh taped it back on, hate it... what to do? Help!!!

It really needs replaced, it still won't look right glued and most likely break again opening and closing the door.

Housing is not even cracked...no exterior or inside housing damage and from what I can tell was originally glued on in first place..so why can't repair shop reglue?
