When you say "stopped for gas , completely dead" I'm imagining you've pulled into a gas station, filled it up, and the car wouldn't start. Here are a few scenarios. 1) When you turn the key did the lights turn on in your dashboard (i.e. check engine light, abs, srs,)? If yes, your battery is fine. It sounds like your starter is stuck and should be replaced. You can try and get it unstuck by banging it with a pipe while turning the key. Another way of confirming it: When you try to start it, you may hear a "click" and nothing else. 2) When you turn the key the lights on the dashboard did NOT turn on. This means your battery is dead, or your battery terminals are dirty and need to be cleaned. You mentioned here in your question "ANY IDEAS BESIDES THE ALTERNATOR", so I won't mention the obvious 3) Broken Alternator belt 4) Bad ignition switch
Thanks for your fast response, time and knowledge! I want as much info and ideas I can get before talking to mechanic.
