My 96 Cadillac Deville starts but won't engage. Won't pull.

I'm sorry. It will start but it won't drive. I can put it in gear and nothing. It won't go. The mechanic added transmission fluid. From what I've read on here there are several things it could be. I really don't want to sink alot of money into something I just got. The seller could have been up front and let me know that something was wrong with it. UGH! Smh .. Also, when I do try and start it. It takes several attempts before it finally starts but it almost sounds like the fly wheel is rubbing against medal. Does that make sense? I sure hope so. the starter could be going out.as far as the transmission not pulling,it could be several things.you will need to have the transmission scanned for problems.
