afer done with replacement, drove off, and a low whine never before heard became evident everytime it automatically shifted. Took it back, immediately. they discovered the pump was defective, so replaced everything including rack & pinion again. Whine is lower, but still present. BUT, noticed now that gas consumption has gone up! Dropped from 20 mph to 15 in 100 miles of street driving, which we never get below 20. Concerned something happened they were not aware of as they were working on the car? The same gas was in the tank before and after the replacements had been done. Very concerned.

do you have a ck eng light on? was the pump new or rebuilt? rebuilt pumps could take approx 500 to brk in.
i had the same thing had power steering pump replaced and then they replaced the the hose ends and it still leaked and whined, so took it back and then said that rack and pinion seals were bad, and it still whines and they replaced the pump again and and noticed that gas mileage is lower, shop says that all they can do is go with dealer pump and i should pay $410.00 dollars for the pump, already paid $1600.00 for the work, anything i can do for them honor the warranty.
