How do I remove the key from the ignition when it's stuck

Mine does the same thing only no power for me to start the car again so I guess I have to start with getting the battery charged or jumped.. unless it is a security feature.. I did remain the car for approximately 30 minutes on a phone call after shutting it off could it have locked me out somehow?
