What is your question?
My fuel gauge stopped working about a year ago, so I have to calculate my mileage so I don't run out of gas. Next my odometer light started fading and went completely out, but sometimes it comes back on as bright as before. Is there a cause and fix for both of these issues?

here is a video on how to resolder the resistors or replace them.this will fix the odometer, and may or may not be the problem to fix the fuel gauge.the fuel sender/fuel level sensor may be bad, located in the fuel tank, part of the fuel pump module assembly.if this is the fuel gauge problem, you have to remove the pump assembly from the fuel tank, through the access panel in the trunk.you can replace just the sender for $35.99>Part Number: 911-008 or the whole pump assembly with the sender attached for $259.99>Part Number: DFG0342.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84FAjLxoK00................................................................... the dealer will charge you around $800.00 for this!
Great story and good for you! I'm so thankful there are people like you out there who share stories and knowledge to help others. I will keep you posted and share my results after I take the plunge and start this job. Now I have to learn how to solder.
i just kept researching.now days you can find ANYTHING on the NET! i wore google out researching it.i found a Ford Forum, that has LOTS of information.i also had a problem with my shift selector, check this out! i put it in park, and it was in park,BUT it showed on the selector that i was in REVERSE.so,started researching that problem.found it on one of the forums.gear selector off one notch?there was someone who had a ONE CENT FIX with TWO small ZIP TIES ?so,i clicked on that link.there is a little thumb wheel under the dash that are bad about the PLASTIC bracket breaking.ok,this guy had pictures.said get a helper to watch selector,i get on my back, found the thumb wheel, yep broken bracket.pull on little string looking thingy until selector moves to P.helper tells you when on P,then take the 2 zip ties, put one on each side of thumb wheel bracket, hold it in place, zip tie each side, still in P.did this several years ago,all positions dead on.Dealer wanted $200.00.i fixed in less than 5 minutes with 2 cotton picken zip ties that i already had,the end! research 2000 buick regal cluster gauge problems, you will find a lot of info.use a low watt pencil type soldering iron,NOT the GUN type,to hot.need any help, ask and i will try and answer.good luck, and post findings.
Thank you for such a quick response to my question and for sending me the link to the repair video. I actually found a package of 150 Ohm 1/2 watt resistors at a local radio shack. They only had one package left of in the entire Dallas / Fort Worth area, so I have to get this right the first time. The information on the solder is extremely helpful as well. Hopefully this will fix both issues, but if not thank you for the information regarding the fuel gauge. Wish me luck!
good luck with the cluster.the fuel gauge could be but rare to be faulty.most of the time it is the sender in the fuel tank.there is a test that can be done to test all the gauges if you wanted to try that.also if you don't want to fool with it,there are several people on EBAY that offer a cluster repair service at a fairly good price,BUT you have to remove it and ship it to them!i started to ship mine to them on my F150.but i kept researching the Famous Ford Odometer Blackout problem(could not see my miles, digital)i found a very detailed repair on it step by step.i DID IT, HEY! it was easy, really.then i called the ford dealer (didn't tell em i already fixed it with 5 cents worth of solder)told them my problem.they said OH NO,that's a very common problem on the f150,f250,f350,Expedition,Explorer,Lincoln Navigator, and more.then they said NO FIX for it,gotta bring it in and we have to replace the cluster and then reprogram my keys or my truck won't start! i still didn't tell em i already fixed it !! i then asked them the magic question.HOW MUCH? service manager said $1200.00?? i just hung the phone up.good luck with yours and don't forget to buy you a PB lottery ticket for Wed.
