What else can it be? We changed the fuel filter because we ran out of gas

We were loaned gas but it was a mixture of gas n diesel. We got to gas station n were sputtering around n almost backfiring. We put gas in n we had trouble starting the vehicle but managed too. We got home n drained all fuel n changed fuel filter n put fresh gas in. Also had to replace a filter(?) Near the carburetor cuz it must have gotten blown out cuz half was missing. Now we can seem to start the vehicle - turns but doesn't start n sometimes it sounds like it's going to backfire. We even tried priming it no such luck it still doesnt start
