2001 Buick Century Was just quoted $700 to replace turn indicator switch, part cost of $448. Part number DS721. I am seeing DS721 online for around $50 why am I being quoted $448?! Symptoms are sometimes only the high beams work, no low beams, and the high beams won't stay on unless I am holding the switch on.
How long has your 2001 Buick Century had this problem?
A few days

RIP-OFF ! .... Find another repair facility .. Not a difficult repair - you probably know a car repair savvy person that can replace the $40.00 switch. Search YouTube for how to video.
the part number you are showing is the switch with cruise control. you can order the switch from rockauto.com. they have several different brands starting at $52.79 plus $7.89 2-3 days Priority shipping cost,no sales tax for a total of $61.00. below is the link for your car, copy and paste the link. as pushrod stated, look for youtube video, and if you do this job, disconnect the battery 1st,wait 30 minutes (airbag bleeds off) before starting the work, and you don't have to pull the steering wheel to do this job! https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/buick,2001,century,3.1l+v6,1377086,electrical-switch+&+relay,turn+signal+switch,4832
Thank you
I wish I could do this myself but I have no knowledge of vehicles. I would probably blow the car up trying to disconnect the battery lol Again, why didn’t i marry a mechanic?! lol
No,google or youtube have some good DIY videos,it ain't that bad, just a few tools and patience!
(It's called a combination switch)
I was hoping you would reply, I’ve seen you on here. Thanks for replying. I’m going to call the manager tomorrow and give them the benefit of the doubt - explain to me why I was quoted ten times the price I am seeing online. And only because I’ve had good experiences at his place in the past year. I’m hoping this estimate is an error.
It’s quite possibly an error - however - IF that price quote was actually just for the combination switch and labor to install - refuse to have the repair performed at that particular facility. Good luck with it!
That sounds like a Quote that Firestone Complete Auto Care would give someone! I've seen them in action, not hear say, seen and listened to the crap they tell people....
Pushrod, Yes, it was the cost for just the combo switch ($448 for the switch) and 2 hours labor @ $135 per hour. I did refuse the repair, based on what I had googled I felt it was an unreasonable estimate and since having left there and googled even more, I know it's a VERY unreasonable estimate. it's a 2001 with 190K on it, the car isn't even worth $700 for the love of Mary lol Thanks again so much for your input, I really appreciate it! I will give the manager a chance to change the estimate and if not, I will find someone else to do it. Why didn't I marry a mechanic?!?! LOL!
1clubinside, I agree! Wtf
I think that is the main reason my wife keeps me around!
Lol!!!
