how do you take the drivers side door panel off

Hello, this is probably not a do-it-yourself job. But door panels are held on by screws -- find them all and remove them -- and then push pins -- you'll need a trim tool to pry the panel safely in areas where the pins are to pop them out. With no experience doing this, you could damage the trim panel, so use care.
