how do I replace the rear cover on the right side mirror assembly

the plastic cover is suppose to snap on but the plastic "tinnecles" do not align to the holes properly. thanks for your thoughts; the cap should snap on.

the snapper does not align to the holes. this is a new cap. thank you so much
