I have a 2001 BMW 740iL the navigation system and radio went completely blank and doesn't work. How can I remove or replace it?

I'm having the same issue ! I have to turn the radio off then on to get 3 minutes of music and then do it again. Frankly I'm a little fed up with all this mystery crap. Would it be a sin to install an after market radio /navigation system . Besides I wouldn't mind I pod and Bluetooth anyway! To answer your question the best advise I could give you ,from what I've read so far , is to follow a step by step procedure and reboot your navigation system . From what I've read this is a critical step before condemning any parts. I have read this in many testimonials .
Which fuse box did you check for a blown fuse?
I replace the fuse and the systems/radio works, but the screen is white. What cause the display screen to turn white?
At this point, it might be worth asking/going to BMW and see if there is a 're-set' procedure or code needed . Just another thought , before choosing an aftermarket replacement. Depending on the system/circuit set-up, it may also be a wiring(communication) problem. Good luck.
There is a possibility the system simply glitched off. Just to test and make sure this is not the case, you might have to reset it. Resetting though will bring the system back to default settings. On most car models, you can do this by disconnecting the negative battery terminal, wait at least 20 seconds (ample time for the power to drain out of the system completely), and then reconnecting it. this should bring it back to working order. If this doesn't work, there might be a reset button on the back which you will have to get to. There are instruction videos and guides only for your particular vehicle I am sure, or follow the manual. If all else fails, take it to a mechanic, just be prepared to find out that the system might be fried. Eric | http://www.gccaraudio.com/gold-coast-car-sound-system-products
hey guys. I think I know what the problem is.I was having the same problem: blank screen, radio played for couple minutes and turned off. After a while I decided to ignore it. I took it to my mechanic just to have the belts changed. He checked it and called me back. He said that the alternator was going bad and also the tensioners. during that problem, the car wouldnt start in the mornings. I change the battery and came to find out that the present battery wasn't even the correct one. is was ok for that whole day, but the next day was back to the same car-start problem. Cant remember if there was 1 or 2 tensioners. I approved the replacements. When I got it back the the screen and radio were back in action.
That sounds like a great idea. How do I reboot the navigation system?
