You need to bring this in for a complete inspection. If you don't work on cars there isn't much you can do here. It needs to be fully diagnosed first. https://repairpal.com/repair-shops Alex
This could be a few things. It needs to be diagnosed correctly. Someone just blatantly yelling out "Not the valve stem seals!" obviously doesn't work on these daily- We'd love to take a peek at it, and can offer a 3/36 warranty on the repairs as well. It simply can't be diagnosed over the web though.
You’ll have to prove me wrong! I’ve worked on a few of em myself.. What was “blatantly yelled out†by some-one was > VALVE STEAM SEALS .. Have a nice day.
Since it isn't your vehicle I really don't have to prove anything to you technically- other than the fact I've got nearly 20 years of BMW experience, and have repaired smoking issues on these exact issues since their inception in 2002 I've got a slight hold of trends on these vehicles. Heck we've got an N62Tu engine as a coffee table.
Add 25 and you’ll have as many years as myself. You know - it really doesn’t matter to me at all - I just happen to know the results of failed valve stem seals.
so if you worked on them you'd know the N62/N62Tu smokes when they leave a stop light will probably be valve guides or guide seals :) I'm glad we're done puffing our peacock feathers lol Take it easy :)
I think the other folks here were to nice to you . Secondly , crankcase ventilation issues can do the same and the cost of repair is way cheaper. While valve stem seals are common on the exhaust side only they can also leak on the intake side as well. If the car got a little to hot a few times. These reasons and other things depending on mileage and condition of parts may also bring a different repair bill. Also things that may pop up, again depending on mileage and driving habits and condition of parts can be prior discussed with the client to be properly schooled on costs. A thorough examination which could include some teardown will put the client in a better position to determine weather or not they even want to repair it. The folks at https;//www.bmwmechanicboca.com did just that for me and I actually lucked out instead of spending a bundle.
