Eddie; The N62 engine that is used in your car and the X5's, and 7 series have a couple know issues. The first things that can go are the Oil Separators causing excessive vacuum in the crankcase which will then cause oil to be sucked into the intake and burned. The second issue is the valve guide seals go bad and oil gets past the valves causing oil consumption issues and smoking. Hope that helps
Sounds like the head gasket is failing. Check the coolant and the oil to see if either is discolored. Suspect coolant is getting into the oil and burning off.
Sounds like valve guide seals to me also, but going with what BTM motorwerks mentioned , I would check around your area and get references to a good shop that specializes in beemers and have it diagnosed properly. Word of mouth is the best reference , so ask around ! Not a car you want messed around with by someone (like me- a Honda & Dodge/Toyota guy) who doesn't truly KNOW the product & it's personal 'quirks'! Good luck........could also try the 'find a shop' at the top of the page , see if you like any of their choices. Again , don't hesitate to ask the shop for references!
I need to slow down on foreign car answers.....BMW, VW and Audi not my cup of tea! lol!
