running out of fuel

What is your question?

I unfortunately ran out of gas in my 2008 325i. After putting fuel in the car started right up and ran just fine. However, I'm burning there fuel at a record amount. I was between 19-20 mpg average and now I'm just over 13 mpg and the range idicator is up and down and has dropped 40 miles after driving just 10? What's wrong?
