#1) Weight may have come off a wheel since balanced. May have bent rim that was unnoticed at initial balancing , causing a wheel/tire to be out-of-balance sooner than expected. May have weak suspension component(s). Defective/ poor wear on tire(s).---#2 Has the check engine light come on at all?...Please reply. Thanks.
Thanks a lot for ur reply. I really appreciate. 1. yes my right wheel has a slight bent in it.thats wht discount tires told me when i did the balance and rotation test. 2. yes the check engine light is on. in fact it has been on for more than 6 months now. the catalytic converter needs replacement.but the dealer told me that you can drive your car like that and not replace the catalytic converter. he also told me that it wont affect my vehicle drastically.just that mileage will be dropped by 2-3 miles. kindly tell me what should i do. Thanks
I'd suggest a new rim and possibly at least 2 (same axle) new tires if tread is less than 5/32" , hopefully that would solve the vibration problem. As far as the dealers opinion on the converter...........without knowing the exact reason for the code ,I would say that it would be in your best interest to replace it and get that light off.I would expect their diagnosis to be correct , but at the same time , if some other problem occurs , you will not know because the light is already on.....possibly leading to an engine , rather than a converter. Which is less expensive? (It's a Bimmer I can't say 'cheaper' , right?)
