just purchased my first bmw. a 2001 325. how do i get the master key to work all

first thanks for responding. fobs? i don't know yet what that means. locking/unlocking doors,trunk and any other function. is the battery dead? really in the dark here as i don't have manual,i'm old and somewhat stupid. any help or referral you can give me will be greatly appreciated. thanks,ron
