Most probable culprit is timing belt or ignition coil failure... To check timing belt .. Remove the distributor cap and check for rotor rotation while helper cranks engine .. IF coil failure, have found it best to replace the distributor assembly, especially on older vehicles .. Coil can be tested with DVOM but that is 'usually' a bit more than the average DIYer is equipped to do.
