The cap has a lanyard that is attached to the inside of the fuel tank door opening. Trying to find a way to remove it, so I can install a new cap.

does it just push thru a little grommet, that holds it in.look under fender well, next to filler cap, and feel around for it,if you can't see it,and push it thru the grommet towards the outside of the bed.
Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately, the wheel well is enclosed, so the area isn't available from below. I ended up removing the two screws that hold the fuel hose shroud and moving it slightly to the rear. Then removing the gas cap access cover. The back side of the old gas cap lanyard attachment was accessible, and easily removed using a pair of needle nose pliers. New gas cap lanyard snaps right in, and the rest was reassembled.
good deal.mine is diff.it just pushes thru a grommet,i could get to it underneath also...some,when replacing the cap just cut the band off,and throw it away, but then you have to remove the cap and put somewhere, then forget about it and drive off!i have found a few on gas pumps...
I thought about that. It was possible, but, being a pack-rat by nature, I decided to take it off in one piece and save it.....for later.....you know....just in case!!
i know what you mean.i just removed the bed from my 2000 F-150 to install new fuel pump, that is why i removed the cap,and the strap.if you leave the cap on the filler neck, and you pick the bed up,it will snap the cap, because the filler neck has to be pushed down thru the filler hole,it is attached to the fuel tank.15 years and 304000 miles, had the original fuel pump still in it!kinda shocked me when i saw the date stamped on the pump,7-24-2000.but anyway,i put the cap back, with the strap, cause i knew i would put it on a gas pump, and leave it somewhere.you would not believe how many people do that.the end, good day.
