2000 Ford Contour

I replaced a fuel pump with sender and now my fuel gauge is working in reverse.

(2000 Ford Contour)
the pump came from a 97 contour and i installed it in my 2000 ford contour. car runs great but fuel gauge reads empty after filling up . i noticed there`s different gauges for these two different years. must i get the 97 gauge and swap out the one that`s in the 2000 in order to make it work? the pump i took out of the 2000 was failing and i noticed it was an after market and had a higher ohms resistance when i checked the sender out . thanks j.a.dianna

the fuel level sensors are not sold separately and the pump assemblies are not compatible with the two different cars.just keep up with your mpg per tank with the trip odometer so you don't run out of fuel,OR buy the correct fuel pump module assembly for the 2000. 1997 and 2000 are completely different.

the gauge is pretty accurate just working in reverse. so 1/4 tank headed towards e is actually 3/4 full. there`s also a fuel pump driver module that`s the original . when looking for gauges on ebay i noticed that they did not use the same fuel gauges for 97- 2000 for ford contours. i`m guessing i need to pair the sender with the proper gauge or live with the mpg monitoring or replace the whole unit that`s in the tank. my concern doing so is that the aftermarket f.p. that i replaced wasn`t the correct pump/sender in the first place. it`s my g.f.`s car and since we met it never operated correctly. it would act up in higher rpms and eventually left us sit 2x`s. at least the car`s running better than ever so i`m tempted to put a small f sticker where the e is and do the same deal but reversed to the f. a big thanks to your site. i have 4 vehicles i must keep on the road (older models) most sites bait you with the free help offer then just before you get the answers want a payment. thanks again, j.a.dianna

ok,if you need a new one a "Delphi Fuel Pump Module Assembly" with the Sender included for the 2000 year model, Part Number: FG1357,it's $359.99 plus tax at Autozone. The same exact Delphi Assembly at Rockauto.com is $151.99 plus $7.99 shipping,no sales tax, total price $159.98, 2-3 business day delivery! local parts stores are in the past for me,because I can wait. no one can beat their prices.

I've been buying parts locally at jobber / installer prices for 45 years - I have got plenty of connections at ALL of the parts stores .. Needed a radiator for my old Chevy pickup - RockAuto beat every local parts stores prices by $30.00 - that's including the shipping!

(Same exact radiator that I was pricing at all the parts stores and all the online discount radiator sources that I've been using in the past)

Did you check for open recalls on this car? There was a ton that were recalled for bad fuel pumps. Recalls never expire
