i have a 1999 chevy tahoe that is stuck in 4wd lo... when i put it in neutral and shift to 2-hi (push button) it shifts into 2-hi then back into 4-lo ON ITS OWN, then it will attempt to shift into 2-hi a second time on its own but will then go right back into 4-lo and remain there with the 4-lo light lit up...COULD THAT BE MY ENCODER MOTOR OR THE Transfer Case Control Module, or the ACTUATOR???

Try shifting to 4 hi first, **give it time to shift!!**.. Then shift to 2 hi.. Do all this with key on, engine off & shifter in neutral... Don't go from 4 lo to 2 hi.. Go from 4 lo to 4 hi then to 2 hi. Post results.
I HAVE TRIED IT SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY... what's happening from what I can see underneath is that when the button is pushed, the driveshaft rotates to disengage the 4wd by the TCCM and rotates right back engaging the 4wd again.... it will then attempt to do so a 2nd time and again goes right back into 4-lo...and the lights stay lit up switch with it and the loud sound of it disengaging and re-engaging lets me know the message is going through electrically
Push and hold 4 hi button a couple seconds.. Lightly tap on shift mother while helper holds 4 hi button may help... If no luck, transfer case module & operation can be scan tested with proper scanner using live data and functional test..
can i potentially unplug a fuse and disconnect the 4wd feature altogether just so i can at least drive it to a mechanic...i really dont want to drive it on the street in 4-lo
No, transfer case has got to complete the shift sequence!
so would you say its the transfer case, encoder motor, actuator, or control module...keep in mind i have a brand new selector switch installed as well...
The scanner will provide that info.. Guessing at it doesn't help much...
replaced the selector switch and the actuator...idk what else to do
