Gauge only reads 1/2 full no matter what the fuel level is? What causes this to occur , never had this issue before and have owned 4 Corvettes...

That depends if you do the work or a shop or dealer does the work,if one or both fuel level sensors are bad(you have two, left and right).if it's the sensor(s) and not the gauge, which I doubt it's the gauge, and others will have different answers like functional test needed, although this is a very common problem on chevys,no matter if it's a cavalier or a corvette, just a fact and rarely is it the gauge.Although, you might want to have it tested first to make sure.you can get OEM complete fuel pump module assemblies from Rockauto.com with the sensors for way less than a parts store gets for just the level sensor.just enter your vehicle info(few diff models of your car) zip code and compare to parts stores.Repair Pal estimate is $1554.00-$3554.00 and the dealers price is $2500.00-$4500.00! copy and paste the link below for this problem reported on this site..good luck.... https://repairpal.com/fuel-level-sensor-failure-432#
