What is your question?
Check engine light on with P0303. 3rd cylinder misfire. Looked at manual, says replace spark plugs at 45k miles. I have 44,500 miles. Still under warranty but did not get a warm fuzzy about taking it in after talking to dealership in Stockton CA. So I figured I'd change the spark plugs first then take it in if CEL does not go off. Got new plugs, removed cover, removed bolt on coil pack wiggled and slight twisting to pull off --- no way was it coming off - sure enough, pulled coil pack off assembly but not the part that has the boot over spark plug. Same for cylinder two, except the coil pack assembly came apart at a different place with boot still on spark plug. Good news, I re-assembled both coil packs, bolted it in place and it still runs, cleared CEL, ran good for 50 miles CEL back on. How do you remove the coil pack in one piece so that you can get the spark plug out?
What makes this problem better or worse?
CEL after engine is hot
How long has your 2017 Hyundai Elantra had this problem?
A couple of weeks
Not really especially if maintenance is due. Talked to them and they kept repeating $156 diagnostic fee etc. I wanted to make sure I have done my part before taking it to them. So do you have a suggestion on what is required to get the coil pack out so that I don't *foul* it up?
Yeah - they all want to change for some-thing ., Contact Hyundai motors directly and explain your situation, I wouldn’t mention any attempted diy repair.. I use compressed air and a blow gun with a very slim nozzle to loosen the spark plug boot so it will release and then it can be removed with long needle nose pliers - the *assembly* needs to be replaced anyway .... ‘IF’ that is indeed the problem??
Thanks, good idea.
