How do you preform an adaption reset after changing a crankshaft sensor

Remove battery neg. cable for about five min. then crankshaft variation relearn should be performed by the computer by just running the engine. However it can be forced by a scanner, unusual to have to do it that way but may be necessary. Why do you ask, light still on, flashing or what?
