What is your question?
Was driving on highway and suddenly gear jumped back to 2nd (I Think) but minutes later I turned on vehicle and I put it on drive and it doesn't kick and tried reverse and same, does not kick into gear and won't reverse... It was all of a sudden. I did change spark plugs after regular motor oil change days before, don't know total millage as my speedometer/millage doesn't read/work. Bought my 2005 Ford escape just months before n it had been great with the exception of no cold AC and I must have AC turned on or fan will not work letting my car overheat but it never rlly overheated but 1 time and wasn't all that bad overheated... A friend drained my transmission fluid saying it was overflowed... Thank u soo very much 4 helping... It is my very 1st vehicle and plan to pass it over to my brother soon he gets out from incarceration... Please help...
What makes this problem better or worse?
Car turns on along with everything else except when I put it into gear (drive 1st 2nd or reversed, it doesn't read/catch/kick into gear
How long has your 2005 Ford Escape had this problem?
It happened all of a sudden as I was driving on the highway then drove slow until I got home n turned off car about 5 minutes n turned it back on n didn't want to drive in any direction

The big clue I read early on: Your speedometer is not working? Realize that your speedometer depends on information from the vehicle speed sensor. So does your transmission! This is clue number one. Testing is needed. Not so sure about the transmission fluid situation -- check the fluid level and ensure it is full and clean. Overheating is never good, but hopefully no further damage has occurred.
Also - ‘IF’ 4x4 - possible transfer case malfunction which is not allowing transmission engagement. Bottom line is this requires *hands-on* evaluation by qualified personnel. Good luck with it!
