i would like to replace my carb. with a fuel injector conversion kit on my 1985 jeep CJ7 258 motor with a 4 speed. Would like to know if anyone has done this and if the end result makes a differance. heard of two kits, one by howell and the other by mopar. mopar kit is twice the price as the howell kit.
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 1990 Jeep Wrangler. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
i was able to locate a kit from Howell for 1,148.00. it gives a very visual manual for installation.i live in amador co. where you only have to smog once. not every other year.tired of rebuilding carbs.
I had a Mopar EFI conversion done on a new (remanufactured) 4.2 L I6....it increased the efficiency and the power of the engine for obvious reasons---- it cost me a couple grand to do this..you have to figure if your rig and its components are worthy of the investment...as Roy sez above-- it may be worth it to sell your rig and get a newer one with the EFI already included on the motor...the EFI kit became standard on YJ Wranglers I6 4.2 L 258 cc engines in the '90s.
If you are a committed CJ fan and don't like the square headlights--- the YJ Wranglers will accept the CJ fenders, hood and grill with a little cutting on the fenders--- so there's your CJ with the frame, metal, motor and suspension upgrades of the Wrangler. The YJ dash can also be converted back to the CJ style...of course, all of this takes work or you could pay a Jeep resto shop a lot 'o money to do it for you.
btw I have heard the Howell EFI kit is just as good as the Mopar and cheaper-- so that's a good option. Good Luck, Tim.
Mastertech is right, Also it won't pass smog in california
