Check engine light on, just started states check emissions system.

What is your question?

I just purchased a Mercury 2006 Mariner SUV not even a week ago. Just yesterday in driving home the check engine light comes on and system states check emissions system. What does this mean? The was purchased ASIS so can't go back to the dealer to get any help. The car came with no owners manuel so I need to look everything up on the internet.

check engine light is on because you have a fault with the emissions system.take it to Autozone and ask them to read the code/codes,also ask them to print them out for you,it's free.post codes here.owners manual on e-bay,used very good condition for $18.99 with the case,free shipping.
