First the check engine light came on and nothing was on the digital display. I had it hooked up to the computer and the code was for the gas cap. I cleaned it and the light went away for a while. Later the check engine light came on again this time it read gas cap on the display as well. I've changed the gas cap (OEM) and the check engine light and display came on again. Service man at Chrysler said it could be an exhaust issue -having a med. to large leak detected and the car computer can only assume a large leak from the gas cap being loose.

The fuel pressure sensor will show differences in the fuel tank as the EVAP test is running. If the change is not within programmed peramaters, thus it reports a leak. The systems is to show if your vehicle is vent gas fumes into the atmosphere. The could be different causes for the leak, but the computer has a cause programmed blaming the gas cap for the leak.
