could be any of the following.possible vent tube, fuel filler pipe cracked or hose, charcoal canister, vent valve solenoid, purge valve.all of this is located near the fuel tank, mounted on frame rail.if you pull the bed,all is easier to access to check everything..
Thank you. Sounds like process of elimination time. I appreciate your response. Thanks again !
i have a 2000 F-150 but i have not had the evap problem that you are seeing on your truck.i had to replace the original factory fuel pump(had the date stamped on it,7-24-2000,306,000 miles,4.6L) in March this year,so i removed the bed verses dropping the tank,so much easier and simple.all the evap stuff was behind my fuel tank in front of the spare tire, and it all looked like it was worn out,but all is working correctly.i have seen where a lot of people are getting that same message that you are getting.a couple of people did something i have never heard of to cut that light off!this is it,quote from forum.( Dealer said to use a plastic funnel put in and out about 10 times in filler tube to reset the light. It worked. This has happened 2 times.)like i said,i have never heard of this, but HEY,whatever works!or,if that don't fix it,check your hoses for leaks,or if you can't find it,i would suggest smoke test next.also IF you have a fuel cap, some newer don't,check the seal on the cap!
Thanks. I'll try the plastic funnel idea first. The 2010 doesn't have a gas cap and I have a reset button in the cab. The code can be turned off but always comes back on when I start the truck. I've checked for leaks. Nothing as far as I can tell. If I have to pull the bed I will. Sounds like the best thing to get to everything.
What reset button do you have in the cab and where is it? I have a 2010 f150 xlt and cant find a "fuel shut-off valve" or an "inertia Switch".
