1992 Hyundai Elantra Reviews and Owner Comments
-
1992 Hyundai ElantraVisitor, Los Angeles, CA, December 03, 2010 01:54Own this car since 1992, still runs OK after 18 years. Auto tranny still works fine. At 30K defective cam seal ruined the engine; rebuilt under warranty. Replaced: tires (50 and 100K), battery (50 and 100K), struts (110K), CV boots (3 times), timing belt (100K), alternator (80K), water pump (120K). Electrolyte caps in ECU leaked, causing trouble, at 110K. For a DIY mechanic, the car is difficult to work on, with very inconvenient access to several critical parts (timing gear, water pump, starter). Performance wise, always had a feeling of danger while breaking hard at speed. 1.6L engine pretty anemic, needed power is mostly obtained thru downshift, which could be annoying. Engine literally dies at high altitude. Despite these shortcomings, this little car was money's worth.Flag ThisLike0
