Would putting a good DMTL pump on a bad vapor canister make the new pump go bad?

What is your question?

replaced an old DMTL pump ( trouble code 1447 ) but not the vapor canister, after doing so, different code ( diagnostic trouble code 1449 ) popped up relating to DMTL pump, replaced the canister AND the gas cap, light still on, could it be that putting the new pump on the bad canister made it go bad? light has been on roughly 3 weeks
