Why does the fuel gauge read empty when 1/2 tank

Thank you , The Truck runs fine and the float as far as I know is free in the tank But will drop and check it again

The truck will run fine because the fuel pump is working properly.....just the fuel level sender isn't sending so you will not know how much fuel you have till resolved. Good luck! Definitely check for a proper ground wire hookup.
