Why does my car only overheat when my ac is on?

I would check your radiator and condenser fans first to see if they operate as they should.

The air conditioning system puts a heavier load on the engine in general, including the cooling system. The one thing I would check for sure is to see if the engine coolant fans / condenser fans are operating properly.
