Why does it seem my overdrive has a hard time getting over hills?

The AOD automatic transmission as equipped in this Mustang is a very primitive, hydraulically operated mechanical transmission with an overdrive gear added on. This is basically a 1960's transmission with an added "gear" -- an added band to lock the reverse sun gear while driving the planet carrier. If you're seeking more power, shift into "D3" to avoid overdrive during these times.
