Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It sounds like your Alero's serpentine belt is having a rough time, and it's likely due to one of the pulleys or accessories causing excessive resistance. The overheating might point toward a seized water pump or a bad pulley, like the tensioner or idler pulley, that’s either stuck or wobbling. When one of these components fails, it puts extra strain on the belt, causing it to shred or snap. Since you've already replaced the belt once, it's a good idea to carefully inspect all the pulleys for smooth operation and check for any misalignment. Also, make sure the tensioner has the right amount of tension; if it's weak, the belt could slip and shred again. Fixing the underlying issue should stop your Alero from eating through belts like popcorn!
