Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Avenger. The thermostat on your Avenger is usually located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. You'll want to follow the upper hose from the radiator to the engine block. At that connection point, there's a housing, and inside it, you'll find the thermostat. Given your overheating issue, the thermostat may be sticking, causing the engine to overheat when it doesn't open properly. The fluctuating heater performance could also indicate an air pocket in the cooling system. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered.
