What is your question?
what does this do? can it effect the HC's on ca smog test. They say it's after the cat but there's nothing between the cat and the muffler.

Your Corolla should have a downstream oxygen sensor only if it is equipped to comply with California emissions standards (there is a sticker under the hood which identifies it as either Federal or California). These cars have 2 catalytic converters - the WU-TWC at the exhaust manifold with the upstream O2 sensor threaded into the top of it, and the TWC. The downstream sensor is between the 2 cats, a little closer to the rear cat. The sensor gives information to the computer, which the computer uses to make the engine run efficiently. If the computer is making its decisions based on bad info, it can affect the HC's
Thank you!!! Found it. Do both 02 sensors do the same thing? Between the WU_TWC and the TWC on the exhaust pipe there is some device that looks like a mini TWC, any idea what that is? There's about a 1ft between this and the TWC on the exhaust pipe and what does it do?.
each O2 sensor takes essentially the same type of readings, but at different positions in the exhaust stream. The other component that you see between the 2 cats is probably a section of braided exhaust pipe - braided so that it can flex a little without breaking.
