what would cause a metal rattling noise while in drive with brakes applied.

Could be loose pads/clips/wheel covers. Is this only when on the brakes? Do you notice it while braking at all speeds? Perhaps have someone stand just outside the car and watch/listen as you drive by and apply the brakes. May also need to get the car in the air to check for loose parts or materials.
