My code reader says misfire cylinder 3, misfire cylinder 8, & multiple misfire

Generally speaking, the most common cause for engine misfires are the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and ignition coils. That being said, I would recommend you have the misfire codes thoroughly diagnosed on your 2004 Dodge Dakota before replacing any parts. If your engine is currently running poorly due to a misfire a qualified technician should be able to pinpoint the cause fairly quickly.
Common Problems that Trigger Misfire Worn out Spark Plugs Ignition Wires, Coil(s), Distributor Cap and Rotor (when applicable) Incorrect Ignition Timing Vacuum Leak(s) Low or Weak Fuel Pressure Improperly functioning EGR System Defective Mass Air Flow Sensor Defective Crankshaft and/or Camshaft Sensor Defective Throttle Position Sensor Mechanical Engine Problems i.e Low Compression, Leaking Head Gasket(s) or Valve Problems Common Misdiagnosis: Fuel Injectors Oxygen Sensor(s) Power Train/Drive Train problems
I had the same thing happen to me in 2007...brought it to the dealership and it ended up being the valves were out of tolerance on that right cylinder head. They had to tear the entire top 1/2 of the motor apart (under warranty) to replace the right cylinder head. For a while I only had a very rough idle, then it finally tripped the engine light, when they pulled the code it said misfire on #3.
