Current tires are 205/50R16, I'd like to go to a 205/60R16 or higher, if possible...

depending on vehicle safety inspection laws(if they apply) , best bet would be to have a tire specialist at a shop review your options in person , in Virginia , if you change tire size and they hit/rub the frame/suspension anywhere , it will not pass inspection , and is also bad for handling.
