was told my transmission needs to be rebuilt but this was the code. what exactly does this code mean and is it expensive to repair

This code has to do with the electronic controls of the transmission. While it is not likely the trans is bad I would recommend getting a second opinon. Gary, Pacific Auto Repair
Hello the fault code p1705 definition is transmission range switch low imput.The transmission switch coneection may be damage or have moisture in the plug.The trans.switch circuit is shorted to ground or trans.switch may be damage.I recommend to have a diagnostic performed by a qualified service center.HAVE A BLESS DAY from DR.RECO.
