Hello, With difficulty turning, you are likely experiencing a power steering issue. The power steering in the older Explorers was very powerful, and turning the wheel at any speed should only take a finger or two. They were made to be capable off-road, so steering is something they are good at. The power steering pump is likely low on fluid or failed, but the steering gear and lines should be inspected as well. If the squeaking you mentioned is not the power steering pump, you may have bad sway bar links, sway bar bushings, control arm bushings, or shocks. Have it inspected by a steering and suspension specialist from one of our certified shops, they will give you an accurate diagnosis. http://repairpal.com/ford-within-10-miles-of-woodbury-connecticut-06798
