Hello, the stability control system relies on many sensors and related control components to operate properly. The light coming on indicates a malfunction of one or more components in that system. It's impossible to figure out without testing the system with test equipment to get a clue on where to start looking.
I have a 2004 Escalade and I had the same error and we couldn't figure it out. Finally my husband replaced the steering wheel position sensor which is located under the steering wheel. It worked. The part cost $100 and it was a simple fix; about $80 on amazon. My car took the Dorman #601-003 steering wheel position sensor. It beats paying $200+ at the dealership to do a diagnostic and half the time they cant figure it out without a computer telling them what to do.
Did you ever figure out the problem Jimbo?
