What can I do to get the car to shift out of park?

At the time it won't come out of park , have someone watch your brake lights IF they don't work , the brake switch MAY be the problem. Otherwise you might want it professionally diagnosed , sometimes they ain't so simple to find the problem , even if the 'fix' is easy. Good luck.
