About a month ago I noticed a lot of grease/oil on my passenger side rear wheel and brakes. I don't think it had been leaking very long since I wash the car/wheels every 2 weeks and hadn't seen it then. I'm a member of an internet Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis group and searched their threads, coming to the conclusion that at the least my rear seal is leaking, maybe bearing needs replacing. Apparently this is not something you want to put off since it can ruin the axle and become quite costly. Went to a shop I trust this morning for an estimate but unfortunately they won't know how much needs replacing until they take it apart. He said maybe $500 incl. labor as a very rough estimate.
rear axle failed badly with leaking oil bad bearings with too much play we replaced it but it the bearings were worn out again in only 3 weeks its a worst nightmare
Failed wheel bearing. Gear oil leaking from axle seal. Axle shaft worn at bearing seat area because of spinning of seized bearing. Installed new bearing with extra wide inner race to bridge over the worn axle shaft. Order same bearing number but add letter R (for Repair) after number to get the repair bearing for salvage procedure.
right rear axle bearing seal bust, spewed rear axle oil in wheel well, fixed by replacing rear axle bearings and seals,
