Took for drive and came back and it would not back up. The reverse light came on but ut wouldn't back up

Hello, Sorry to say, but this is more than likely an internal failure of the transmission. If the engine speed increases independently of the transmission while in reverse, there is a mechanical failure of some kind. Low transmission fluid, or old transmission fluid can also cause slippage issues.
