A battery is a non-issue if the engine is cranking. So, that appears to be a waste of resources to start with. Cranking without starting indicates that your engine isn't getting one or more of the following: Fuel delivery Ignition spark Proper air flow (too much or not enough) Engine compression Engine timing correctness Something is wrong and can be found out relatively easily by performing some hands on testing.
