Transmission seems to be broke?

(1997 GMC Yukon)
in Auburn, KY on April 26, 2011
I have 1997 GMC yukon with 260,000 miles on it. I was headed to school the other day, and as I accelerated I heard a loud pop and my truck began to shimmy servilely. I got it home, started it up, and when I put it in reverse it makes sounds like metal slapping. It will not go in forward or reverse. Only makes a the noise when shifting into reverse, and sometimes makes a whining type sound. I'm sure the transmission is trashed, I just wanted to make sure before taking it for repairs. I haven't had good luck in the past with mechanics.

i agree, it sounds internal and the unit would have to be pulled anyway to check. get a bid from a trans shop and ask about the warranty

based on the years and mileage, your Yukon is not worth
the cost of a new or reman transmission.
