transmission overdrive failure

What is your question?

When vehicle is engaged in overdrive it will move until the speedometer reaches about 35mph than it slips and vehicle comes to a stop. The vehicle functions fine in all other transmission modes. What could be the cause of this and would it be unlikely that a new transmission would be needed. Thanks
