What is your question?
have to warm up transmission before moving forward, 2 or 3 times, then its good the rest of the day. check engine light is on constant now after putting in new alternator. Is there a sensor causing problem? Or does transmission just need service and fluid change? Car has 176,000 miles on a replaced engine at 80,000?
What makes this problem better or worse?
its worse when cold in start up mornings.
How long has your 2005 Dodge Stratus had this problem?
probable 2 weeks since new alternator installed

Hello, there are a lot of unknowns here, unfortunately. A fluid change may or may not improve matters. Because you have other concerns, such as a check engine warning light that is illuminated, I would probably suggest investigating there first. A fluid change is something you should do every 30,000 miles or so, so if it's overdue - sure, do that too. But typically the fluid being changed doesn't result in instant resolution of a problem like this. Seek the guidance of a local technician near you: www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
Hi there transmission fluid exchange it's usually to prevent no to fix a issue. Definitely first thing try to fix your check engine light.
