The ignition timing is set using an induction timing light. The diagnostic connector in the engine compartment needs to have the "T1" and "E1" terminals bridged with a paper clip, with the connector bridged the timing is set to 8 to 12 degrees BTDC at idle. Check to see that your engine is not over filled with engine oil. Oil smoke out the exhaust on initial start up is usually due to valve guide or valve guide seal wear. Oil smoke out the exhaust on acceleration is usually engine wear/oil control rings.
